“I don’t believe in any great story"
José Álvarez Junco in conversation with Santos Juliá
The historian José Álvarez Junco made this declaration while explaining the intense cross-exchange of theories and disciplines, as well as the proliferation of interests reflected in his career. Álvarez Junco, accompanied by the fellow historian Santos Juliá, recalls the circumstances surrounding some of his most important publications. This journey, which begins with his student years during the 1960s in the progressive climate of the Faculty of Politics where he completed his PhD thesis about Spanish anarchism, and subsequently examines his studies of the working class and social movements, populism and Alejandro Lerroux, concludes with a discussion of his most recent political culture research about national and nationalism and the construction of the history of Spain.
