Robert Schumann: Kleisleriana, eight fantasias Op. 16 (selection)

Robert Schumann composed his Kreisleriana in 1848. Dedicated to Chopin, this collection of fantasias was probably inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s texts featuring the composer Johannes Kreisler. The work was one of the most significant for Schumann, who often asked Clara Wieck to perform it: indeed, seven of the eight fantasias contain a motive that Clara herself had composed.
