Preludes and fugues. Continuities

Gustavo Díaz-Jerez, piano

Solomon Jadassohn: "Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in C minor", from 18 Preludes and Fugues Op. 56, and Karol Szymanowski: Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor

Bach and Liszt underlie the works Gustavo Díaz-Jerez plays in this video. The Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in C minor by Salomon Jadassohn (most remembered today for his work as a teacher), merges the evocation of the Baroque and a writing that is typical of Liszt. Szymanowski's Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor is a work of youth that refers to Liszt's expressiveness and density (in the "Prelude") and to Bach's counterpoint (in the "Fugue").
