Robert Schumann: Dichterliebe

Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love) is the most perfect expression of love in sound. It was the year 1840 when Schumann set that love that “is nothing if it is not madness” to music, a sentiment that would subsequently be described by Thomas Mann in The Magic Mountain. The parallelism between the musical and literary work can be seen in the performance given by the baritone Günter Haumer and the pianist Julius Drake, followed by a dramatised reading by José Luis Gómez.
