The poems of Rimbaud and Verlaine

Mauro Armiño, presentation. Josep Maria Flotats, dramatic reading

The actor Josep Maria Flotats gives a dramatised reading of poems by Rimbaud and Verlaine, presented by the translator Mauro Armiño. Beginning with the poem “L’art poétique” by Verlaine that represented his break with Parnassianism, the poems selected form a journey through a key period in modern French poetry: the leading role of Rimbaud and Verlaine in the emergence of the symbolist school, based on expression and sensation, using a predominantly anti-formal trend of a decadent aesthetic. To end, the poem “Birds in the night” by Luis Cernuda, dedicated to the memory of the two French poets.
