Contradanzas, danzones and other cuban music

From the contradanzas by Manuel Saumell and Ignacio Cervantes to the most modern creations by composers like Andrés Alén, Cuban music has successfully integrated European, African and Caribbean harmonies and rhythms. This melting pot of influences is clear in this concert, in which performances on the piano alternate with those given by an instrumental ensemble in order to illustrate, from a historical perspective, the dialogues between art and popular music that have always characterised the music of Cuba.
