African polyrhythms and works by G. Ligeti and P. Vallejo
The richness and variety of African rhythms enthused composers like Ligeti, who incorporated the complexity of these polyrhythms into some of his piano works. In this concert, the percussionists Justin Tchatchoua, Aboubacar Shyla and Husmani Bangoura, and the pianist Alberto Rosado interact, performing African music and contemporary piano works. The ethnomusicologist Polo Vallejo introduces this recital and explains some of the most important aspects of the transfer of music between Africa and the West.
