Jorge Fernández Guerra's Panic on Wall Street

Ensemble Kuraia. Andrea Cazzaniga, conductor

Pánico en Wall Street, by Jorge Fernández Guerra (1952)

In order to create Pánico en Wall Street, a work premiered during this concert, Jorge Fernández Guerra used a ragtime by Scott Joplin titled Wall Street Rag, parodying “the troubles of that tribe that has spoiled our lives throughout the twentieth century and up to now: brokers”. Fernández Guerra builds a musical fantasia around this theme in the form of an “indignant case against such unpleasant characters”.
