Michael Daugherty's Sinatra Shag

Ensemble Kuraia. Andrea Cazzaniga, conductor

Sinatra Shag, by Michael Daugherty (1954)

The music of the North-American composer Michael Daugherty is a clear example of post-modern aesthetic and thought. Inspired by the Las Vegas architecture-spectacle, Daugherty composed a series of works, among which was Sinatra Shag. This work, based on Nancy Sinatra’s sixties hit These Boots are Made for Walkin’, came about after the composer saw a postcard of the singer, portrayed in a pair of white boots and seated on a Harley Davidson in 1966.
