Intellectual Autobiography of Rafael Canogar

Rafael Canogar in conversation with Victor Nieto Alcaide

Based on the concept of “reinventing painting” that guides his creation today, the artist Rafael Canogar recounts his professional career through his personal pictorial evolution in the context of the new tendencies in the visual arts during the mid-twentieth century. Thus, he refers to his early influences in Informalism and action painting, moving back and forth between abstraction and realism and the continuous search for radicalness and essence. In conversation with the art historian Víctor Nieto Alcaide, he continues explaining his artistic decisions in relation to personal and collective circumstances.
