Intellectual Autobiography of José Luis Sampedro

José Luis Sampedro in conversation with Olga Lucas

The senior professor, academic, economist, writer and young-at-heart humanist José Luis Sampedro converses with his wife, the writer Olga Lucas. He traces his understanding of how to coexist in harmony with others back to his childhood in once-cosmopolitan Tangiers. He remembers his first poem, the civil war, his desire to become an economist to help fight poverty and the harsh treatment he subjects himself to as a writer. He reflects on Europe, freedom of thought, and champions the validity of the principles of the French Revolution as essential foundations for happiness and the ability to live in harmony with nature and others.
