Miguel Ángel Aguilar (Madrid, 1943) graduated in the Escuela Oficial de Periodismo. He began working as a journalist in 1966 at the daily newspaper Madrid, as its London correspondent. He later moved to Brussels as correspondent of the weekly paper Cambio 16. After returning to Madrid, he worked as a correspondent for the daily newspaper La Libre Belgique, political correspondent for the weekly journal Posible and later editor in chief of Cambio 16. In 1977 he was appointed editor of Diario 16. In 1980 he joined El País, initially as political correspondent and later as a diplomatic correspondent and weekly columnist.

He has worked as chief information officer at the EFE press agency (1986-1990), a columnist for the weekly paper Tiempo, editor of the newspaper El Sol and editor and presenter of the weekday and weekend news bulletins at Telecinco. In 2015 he founded the weekly newspaper Ahora, of which he was president-editor until 2016.

He is the founder of the Spanish section of the Association of European Journalists and a trustee of the Fundación Real Fábrica de Tapices. He has published the books Las últimas Cortes del Franquismo (1976), El Golpe, anatomía y claves del asalto al Congreso (1981), El Vértigo de la Prensa (1982), Sobre las leyes de la Física y la Información (2009), España contra pronóstico (2013) and En silla de pista (2018).

He presently contributes to several radio and television programs and is a weekly columnist for the newspaper La VanguardiaVozpópuli and the weekly journal El siglo. In 2016 he was awarded the 12th Premio José Couso de Liberdade de Prensa.
