Bach's Suites

6, 13, 20, 27 February 2016
Saturday Concerts:

The suite (a succession of stylised dances) is one of the musical forms that best synthesises the essence of Baroque instrumental music. Of French origin, this genre reached one of its peaks with Johann Sebastian Bach, who was responsible for some of the best collections of all time: the English suites (so called because they may have been intended for an English patron), the French suites (which were given this name to distinguish them from the English suites) and the solo cello suites, whose rediscovery for the general public is linked to the name of Pau Casals. A selection of these works will be performed on the harpsichord, piano and cello during this four-concert series.
