Wednesday Series:

Introduction

The Civil War and the Francoist dictatorship resulted in a traumatic rupture and exile for a large number of Spanish composers, forced to earn a living and integrate into the culture of their respective receiving countries. They would all share a sense of nostalgia for their lost homeland that would be reflected in many of their works. But each exile is different, and each life and artistic course has its own patterns. Taking the figure of Salvador Bacarisse −one of the most outstanding composers of the Republican period− as its centrepiece, this series presents a journey through the music of Spanish composers written in countries as diverse as France, United Kingdom, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
