A Tribute to Federico Sopeña: An Intellectual Biography in Music

13 December 2017
Premieres and Re-premieres:

Between the 1940s and 1980s, Federico Sopeña was one of the most influential personalities in Spanish musical life. A musicologist, music critic, art historian, teacher, priest… Sopeña was active in many fields of Spanish culture and maintained a close relationship with the Fundación Juan March as a host of the educational concerts that were first presented at this institution at the time. This concert pays tribute to this important figure with a selection of works that reflects two of his passions: the Spanish music of his time (which he always supported) and German lied (in which he was a true expert).

Available on streaming via Canal March

Starting in 1986 this series of concerts offers works by Spanish composers that, for whatever reason, have not been easy to hear after their premiere, leading, on occasions, to the practical "disappearance" of pieces, in many cases undeservedly.

The Aula de (Re)estrenos (Auditorium of Re-premieres) is not limited to rediscovering works from the past, it is also a space where recent works, either already premiered in other places or yet to be premiered, are presented for the first time in Madrid. All the audio of the previous Aulas, together with the programs, the photographs and other related materials are available in Clamor. Digital library of Spanish Music
