Musical Clichés. Visions of Spain

This series took place onFrom to
The musical image of a country is often constructed from abroad and is based on a series of clichés that evolve over time, vary according to the perspective taken by each composer, and respond to different ideological interests in each case. This series explores the different musical clichés associated with Spain throughout history, with France, Russia and Germany as the most important creative focal points. The seven concerts present an overview of the image of the country in sound from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries; an overview that encompasses everything the La Spagna melody to the works of Maurice Ohana, from folías and chaconnes to Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, from Debussy’s piano works to Shostakovich’s songs.
