J. S. Bach's Violin Sonatas & Partitas

This series took place onFrom to

Johann Sebastian Bach’s mastery of counterpoint extended to instruments that are not essentially polyphonic. With his sonatas and partitas, Bach demonstrates that the violin was also an instrument capable of playing chords consisting of up to four simultaneous sounds, performing complex melodies over a basso continuo or performing complex fugues. This series, held during October and November of 1978, featured works from this repertory.
