Wednesday Series

Musical Prodigies

This series took place onFrom to

Perhaps music’s special language explains why no other art form has been so conducive to the emergence of child prodigies. The list of composers who began composing at unusually early ages is enormous, but the extraordinary technical and aesthetic manner in which some of these works were composed is even more surprising. All of the pieces in the three concerts making up this series, except two, were completed when their composers were aged between 12 and 17. Historically, scholars and listeners have acknowledged the childhood and adolescent creations of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, but less attention has been paid to those of Liszt, Strauss, Scriabin, Korngold and Rachmaninov, some of which will be performed in this series.
