The organ concerto is a rare genre. However, Handel, himself an organist, composed 16 such concertos. Written to be performed during the intervals of his oratorios, they combine the sacred nature and grandiose sound of the organ with shows of virtuosity. A total of seven Handel concertos were performed during these two recitals, held during November and December of 1978.
