“It is an atrocity that we are still witnessing today”. This is the way in which, the lecturer in Art History and curator of the exhibition THE UNSEEN. From Informalist painting to the postwar photobook [1945-1965], María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco refers to the attitude Informalist painting took towards taking charge of the testimony of the trauma and destruction of the European reality after World War II. Making use of some unprecedented pictorial resources, this “other” art did not seek abstraction or an absence of figuration, but the radical expression of the artist’s pain in a world that had lost its form.
