Carmen SánchezThe Parthenon
The Ancient Art Professor Carmen Sánchez takes us on a journey through the Parthenon, from its origins in the fifth century BC to its current state of reconstruction. An iconic monument built at the request of Pericles, it is an unconventional classical temple owing to its typological and iconographical peculiarities, which stands out for its architectural uniqueness and its sculptural motives. In its interior it houses a large chrysolephantine sculpture in gold of Athena, the patron of the city. Other feminine symbols include the scenes of Amazonomachy on the metopes on the west end, represented as opponents of the Greeks.
