Quiroga Quartet

The United States Today

Works by S. Reich, S. Barber and G. Crumb

The constant recreation of important national events in the United States helps to obscure the borders between fiction and reality. One of the most important musical recreations of the 9/11 attacks is WTC 9/11, a work in which Reich incorporates the police messages recorded that day with the quartet. But so is Samuel Barber’s Adagio, a ubiquitous soundtrack in all the acts that pay homage to the victims. Very different is Black Angels, George Crumb’s response to the Vietnam War that today is considered among the most influential works of the twentieth century.
