“Pastime with good company, I love, and I shall until I die”. These are the opening lyrics to the popular ballad Pastime with Good Company, written by Henry VIII during the early years of his reign. According to the king’s humanistic philosophy, music, hunting and dance, in good company, are honest pastimes that drive always sadness and vice. In this recital, the Alamire ensemble performs this and other works composed by the English monarch and by the musicians of his Court.
