Manuel Fraijó

Confucius

1/12/2017

Manuel Fraijó, Emeritus Professor of the Philosophy of Religion and History of Religions (UNED), discusses the figure of Confucius, and comparing him to Laozi. According to the classification Fraijó proposes, Confucianism and Taoism are learned religions and their principles are expressed as wisdom or humanist philosophies that shape relationships and the organisation of life. Confucius’s teachings are contained in the book titled Analects, which consists of short phrases, dialogues and anecdotes. The book represents a political, economical and social compendium aimed at establishing the ethical and moral behaviours of the Chinese civil servants of his time (500-400 BC).
