Luis Fernández-Galiano, conferenciante

Matadero Madrid. Regeneration and uncertainty (2004-2016)

Architecture in Spain. From the Transition to Uncertainty

4/6/2017

The presenter Luis Fernández-Galiano refers to the last decade of Spanish architecture as a “helter-skelter”, from the generalised euphoria of the early years to the fall caused by the 2008 economic crisis. The contrast between the urbanistic projects of the 2004 Barcelona Forum, Expo 2008 in Zaragoza and the cultural complex of the Matadero and Madrid Río (2006-2011) illustrate a tendency toward sustainability and self-criticism. The creative note lies in a new generation of creators that provided respectable and modest, imaginative and optimistic solutions, in the face of the fall in public investment and austerity.
