The Motet, from Beginning to End

Motets from Baroque to Romanticism


In the seventeenth century, while the motet in Latin continued to use the technique of the cantus firmus based on Gregorian melodies, the more recent Lutheran motet resorted to chorale melodies as their basis. This led to the emergence of two traditions that have survived until today. This video combines Catholic and Lutheran works written from the seventeenth until the mid-nineteenth centuries, establishing a journey in sound that reflects the diversity and stylistic transition of the genre in this period.
