Night Music. Night, Madness

Works by W. Rihm, R. Schumann, L. Nono, and J. S. Bach

Talking to the dead in Wolfgang Rihm’s Zwiesprache and Schumann’s volatile character reflected in his Davidsbündlertänze and Geistervariationen (Ghost Variations) are the common theme in a program exploring death and madness covered in the shadows of night.  Luigi Nono’s “…sofferte onde serene…” offers the listener memories of the Venetian night.
