The Elements, by Antonio Literes

Antonio de Literes (1673-1747): The Elements, a harmonic opera in the Italian style

4/9/2018 - 4/15/2018

The Elements is explicitly presented as a “harmonic opera in the Italian style”, in which the best tradition of Spanish verse comes together with Italian developments in music, which materialised in the use of violins and the alternation of recitatives and arias. At the time, these stylistic features were understood as a synonym of modernity, something that would not escape their first listeners either. The staging of this new production brings these allegorical codes into the present, while maintaining the emblematic world of Baroque opera, with the original results typical of the splendour of this Golden Age of Spanish music.
