Román Gubern

Presentation of Long Pants (1927) in the "Comedy Film" cycle

2/21/2014

According to Román Gubern, this film tells the story of the rite of passage from an adolescent to an adult, which is not exempt from symbolism and satire about topics including femininity and family traditions. In “Long Pants”, directed by Frank Capra, the comic elements are largely left to the immature and scatterbrained youth, played by Harry Langdon, who becomes self-absorbed after a chance encounter with a "femme fatale". During his presentation, Román Gubern points out that “Despite being a forgotten comedian today, the leading actor Harry Langdon is probably the cycle’s greatest discovery”.
