Miguel Falomir

The Arcimboldo Effect

2/25/2014

The rediscovery of Giuseppe Arcimboldo by “isms” such as Dadaism and Surrealism –Dalí referred to him as “the father of Surrealism”–, his institutionalization with exhibitions in the most important museums, the attention intellectuals including Alfred H. Barr, Federico Zeri and Roland Barthes paid to him, and his survival in popular culture and advertising, among others, demonstrate the importance of the artist from Milan in the history of modern art. Miguel Falomir portrays the historical figure of Arcimboldo as an artist at the imperial Habsburg Court who reflected in his creations his great interest in the study of nature.
