Manuel Rodríguez Rivero

Presentation of It (1927) in the "Comedy Film" cycle

3/14/2014

An example of a fully developed comedy, Manuel Rodríguez Rivero presents It as a clear predecessor of the comic sound films of the 1930s, which would base the effectiveness of their humour on dialogues and verbal gags. This portrait of the period is structured around representations of the model of the “new woman” (the flapper), department-store consumerism and the social aspirations of the main character. The lead actress Clara Bow, in the role of the spunky shop girl, was one of the first female stars in the history of film. Also of note is the presence of the Spanish actor Antonio Moreno, who co-stars in the film.
