Himno de los peregrinos a Santiago Dum pater familias, rex universorum from the Codex Calixtinus
The hymn Dum pater familias, performed by the Ensemble Discantus, exclusively consisting of female voices accompanying themselves with hand bells, is a monophonic piece that was possibly added to the Codex Calixtinus at the end of the twelfth century. Its main characteristic is the festive tone that impregnates the piece, with more of a celebratory than a liturgical ending. The international profile of the Jacobean pilgrimage is reflected in the inclusion of exclamatory expressions in different languages apart from Latin (German and Flemish) in the hymn.
The second complete concert in this cycle, performed by the Ensemble Dialogos, is available at http://www.march.es/musica/envivo/detalle.aspx?p0=3743.
