Expeditions to the Desert: The Valley of the Kings

11/11/2014

The lecture takes us on a journey through the numerous expeditions that have taken place in the Valley of the Kings –situated close to the former city of Thebes– from Napoleon’s arrival in Egypt in 1798, to Belzoni, under the orders of Henry Salt, who discovered the tombs of Ramesses I and Seti I, among others. The discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, in 1922, by Howard Carter and his team, with the help of Lord Carnarvon, is described in detail. A rundown of the work carried out by José Manuel Galán’s team on the hill of Dra’ Abu el-Naga’ is also given.
