In Pendulum (2011), Philip Glass employs the rhythmic irregularities that characterised his most avant-garde works, but he uses a more traditional language and forms that resemble what some term “neo-Romanticism”. This label has often been associated with John Corigliano. His Sonata for Violin and Piano displays an optimistic character and a virtuosity that links it to the works of Barber and Copland.
