    El Pelele and Mavra
    54:13APRIL 3, 2016Julio Gómez’s El pelele (1925) and Igor Stravinsky’s Mavra (1922) both sought their inspiration in the music of the past. This coproduction between the Fundación Juan March and the Teatro de la Zarzuela performed by Susana Cordón, Marina Makhmoutova, Anna Moroz and José Manuel Montero, revives Gómez’s work, which had not been staged for close to half a century. An exhibition about Gómez was organised to coincide with the performance.

These materials allow the gestation and reception of El pelele to be reconstructed, and discovers different facets of Gómez’s life, its historical context and his relationship with Cipriano de Rivas Cherif.
