The “Pastoral” Symphony was intended, in Beethoven’s words, as “more an expression of feeling than tone painting”. Tentatively received during its premiere, it was highly praised in an article published two years later by Michael Gotthard Fischer, who was precisely responsible for the magnificent transcription for string sextet that formed part of the series Beethoven’s Symphonies in Chamber Arrangements.

The different views of nature and the natural that arose in the transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth centuries form the basis of the presentation given by Ramón Andrés, a musician, writer and essayist, to introduce this transcription of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, the “Pastoral”. The work is performed by the Leipzig String Quartet with Cristina Pozas, viola, and Miguel Jiménez, violoncello.
